  • Our Building: From our window you look out on one of the cutest streets in Brooklyn, and it’s one short block to the subway into Manhattan.
  • Living Room: Our apartment is furnished with a mix of contemporary, vintage and antique pieces.
  • Living Room: The sofa is large enough to comfortably sleep one person, or we have a queen sized air mattress.
  • Living Room: The living room gets a good amount of morning/afternoon light. It’s a wonderful place to relax and read, or watch a movie on Hulu or Netflix, which streams directly to our television.
  • Dining Area: All set up for a nice meal at home before heading out to see the sights. This is a slightly dated photo. We now have a beautiful mid-century table and chairs that seats 6, and new hardwood cabinets and granite countertop.
  • Bar Area: The bar is one of our great finds at our favorite NYC vintage shop.
  • Office Area:
We have lots of books for you to use while you’re here and you are welcome to use our laptop to do research on what to see in New York. For those that work from home like we do, we would love to look into doing longer exchanges where we work from each other’s homes.
  • Hallway Leading To The Bedroom and Bath: Here’s where we keep photos from many of our travels.
  • Bedroom with the afternoon light.: Here’s our very comfortable pencil-post canopy bed. It is wonderful after a full day touring New York’s attractions.
  • Our newly painted bedroom: With the overhead lights off and the Christmas lights on, our bedroom is as wonderful place to read and relax before bed.
  • Porches Along Howard Street: Windsor Terrace is a great neighborhood to stroll in. This is one of the street that you can walk along to get from our apartment to the subway.
  • Porches Along Fuller Street: And this is the other street. Small-town American in the heart of Brooklyn.
  • Stoops in Wintertime:
Brooklyn is beautiful year-round, especially after a nice snow.
  • Prospect Park West: The red-brick sidewalks of Prospect Park West (9th Ave. to the locals) might look familiar. It was featured in several films, including Dog Day Afternoon and As Good As It Gets.
  • Prospect Park West At Night: The neon sign of Farrell’s Bar, a Windsor Terrace institution that was founded in 1933, the year Prohibition was repealed. Inside you’ll experience a slice of Brooklyn’s past.
  • And just catty-corner to Ferrell’s you’ll find a slice of new Brooklyn at the Double Windsor Pub. It has more of a hipster vibe, lots of great beers on tap, and fantastic burgers. Plus it’s only a five minute walk from our apartment!
  • Lake At Prospect Park: Prospect Park is wonderful, regardless of the season. Whether it’s spring . . .
  • The Boathouse At Prospect Park: . . . summer . . .
  • Changing Leaves At Prospect Park: . . . autumn . . .
  • View From Under The Footbridge At Prospect Park: . . . or winter, you’ll always find something to do.
  • Greenmarket: A walk through Prospect Park on a Saturday will lead you to the greenmarket at Grand Army Plaza. From there you’re right next to the Brooklyn Public Library and the Brooklyn Museum of Art.
  • The Soldiers’ and Sailors’ Arch: Grand Army Plaza in the snow.
Our Building: From our window you look out on one of the cutest streets in Brooklyn, and it’s one short block to the subway into Manhattan.

Otthonunk

We have a stylish and comfortable one bedroom apartment with air conditioning in a 1906 barrel-fronted greystone building located in the heart of Brooklyn. We’re located only a block away from the F and G trains, which takes you directly to great neighborhoods such as Carroll Gardens, Williamsburg, Brooklyn Heights and Cobble Hill in Brooklyn, and the Lower East Side, the East Village, and Greenwich Village in Manhattan. Head the opposite direction on the F train and you’ll find yourself at Coney Island, where you can stroll along the boardwalk enjoying a Nathan’s hotdog or relax in the sun at Brighton Beach.

When we set up our home we had comfort in mind. Our apartment has an open plan kitchen with a dishwasher and gas stove. For a lovely home-cooked meal you can walk to one of two farmer’s markets to pick up organic produce, locally produced cheese, and fresh baked bread, which you can enjoy in our full dining area before you head out on the town. The living room is a cozy spot to enjoy a lazy Sunday morning with a coffee and the New York Times. The bedroom benefits from a large pencil-post canopy bed with a very thick and comfy mattress that is often difficult to leave in the morning. You are welcome to use our computer and we have wireless Internet access, cable television, and a stereo system that you can use with your i-pod. If you have a car, you’ll find that street parking in our neighborhood is both abundant and safe (a rarity in New York City!).

Sorry, smoking and pets are not allowed in our building, but we do love pets so we'd be happy to watch your cat during an exchange.

Windsor Terrace has a small-town-America feel, right in the heart of Brooklyn. Walk along the red brick sidewalks of Prospect Park West, the neighborhood’s main street, and you’ll find a cinema, an excellent Italian butcher, and the famous Farrell’s Bar. Within a few blocks of our apartment you can get almost any type of cuisine, including New York pizza and bagels, Mexican, Sushi, and good old-fashioned diner food. Walk a bit farther along the brownstone- and tree-lined streets and you can enjoy the bars, restaurants, shops and coffee houses of Park Slope.

If you’re looking to get outdoors, Windsor Terrace is a perfect location. Wedged between Prospect Park and Green-Wood Cemetery, a national historic landmark, the neighborhood is surrounded by over 1000 acres of green space. A mere three blocks from our apartment, Prospect Park boasts a 5K bicycle/running track, athletic fields, horseback riding, ice skating, boating, fishing, and free summer concerts. Stroll though the park to get to the Brooklyn Museum of Art, the Saturday farmer’s market at Grand Army Plaza, the Brooklyn Botanic Garden, and the Prospect Park Zoo.

We settled in Windsor Terrace because it is a safe neighborhood and has easy access to Manhattan, not to mention the fact that its rowhouses and tree-lined streets are absolutely adorable! We think you'll find that it is a wonderful starting point from which you can explore everything that New York City has to offer.

Mikor utaznĂĄnk

We often travel for work so we like to plan our trips in advance, but feel free to offer a last minute exchange, especially for destinations close to New York City for long weekends.

In 2013 we’re also open to long weekends along the eastern seaboard. Were particularly interested in Cape Cod, Massachusetts; Newport, Rhode Island; Savannah, Georgia; or Charleston, South Carolina, but we’re open for other suggestions for shorter exchanges.

I'm looking for an exchange in London from 26 May until 2 June. If you'd like a trip to New York in spring, be sure to let us know.

RĂłlunk

We are a professional American couple in our thirties who moved to Brooklyn in 2007. Scott is an artist with a nearby studio and Nicole works from home as a banking analyst. Prior to moving to New York, we lived in London for three years, which is where we first began doing home exchanges. We had a chance to explore Berlin, Amsterdam, Bologna, Paris, and many other European cities while living there. Since we moved to Brooklyn we’ve had successful exchanges in Padua, Houston, Vancouver, Philadelphia, New Orleans, London and several other cities. We love living in Brooklyn and enjoy sharing many of our favorite places in New York City with others.
